Abstract

Pain has become the most common complaint suffered by cancer patients. One way to manage pain in cancer patients with non-pharmacological therapy is through Benson relaxation therapy, which can inhibit sympathetic nerve activity and subsequently reduce oxygen consumption by the body, leading to muscle relaxation and triggering feelings of ease and comfort. This case study aimed to develop nursing care in providing Benson relaxation therapy to reduce pain in cancer patients at RSUD Banyuwangi. This research method employs a descriptive case study approach, focusing on the application of Benson relaxation in reducing pain in cancer patients. The respondents of this study were two adult patients with cancer who suffered from pain on a scale of 3-6 (mild to moderate pain). The results of the case study showed that there was a reduction in pain for both respondents: respondent I suffered from pain with an initial scale of 6 reduced to 2, and respondent II suffered from pain with an initial scale of 4 reduced to 2 after being given Benson relaxation therapy for 3 days. This research concludes that Benson relaxation therapy can reduce pain in cancer patients with mild to moderate pain scale.
